Rihanna at ACC – June 7, 2011

First half of the show to seemed transition so quickly that the audience barely had time to keep up. She did a military-themed set which featured “Hard”, “Raining Men” and “Run This Town” (her duet with rapper Jay-Z). In addition she did her cover to Sheila E’s “Glamorous Life” where she did an impressive drum solo. Things slowed down for her softer material such as “Unfaithful”, “Hate that I Love You” and “California King Bed”. By then she was on costume four wearing a stunning yellow dress.

The audience were taken by surprise as Drake took the stage to perform his single “Over”. He wasn’t the only surprise guest of the evening as Canadian singer, Melanie Fiona joined opening act B.O.B. for his single “Airplanes”. Rihanna and her dancers came out shortly after to perform “What’s My Name” with Drake, “Rude Boy” and “Don’t Stop the Music”.

Six costumes changes and 24 songs later, Rihanna was ready to take a bow. Who would have thought the girl who sung “Pon De Replay” six year ago would get to this point. Rihanna’s performance at the ACC came across as playful and full energy. The night ended on a memorable note as she sung her number one hit “Umbrella”. Before leaving the stage, pink confetti burst into the crowd as she waves goodbye.

Was Toronto ready for the LOUDEST concert on earth? I believe so as thousands packed the Air Canada Centre to rock out with Barbadian pop star Rihanna. The tour was in support of the singer’s fifth studio release. No expense was spared as the stage was decked out with over-the-top speakers, props, bright lights and dancers in exotic costumes.

Dressed in an electric blue trench coat and hot –pink stilettos boots, Ri Ri started her set with “Only Girl” which seemed fitting as she was the only girl on the tour. Before you know it, she stripped down into a colourful-studded bikini for “Disturbia” and “Shut Up and Drive”.  Things got a little kinky when the handcuffs, chains and pillows came out for “S&M” and gave an awkward lap dance to a lucky audience member for “Skin”.
