Train at Molson Amphitheatre – August 22, 2011

Train genuinely had the entire crowd engaged from start to finish. From the incredible stage production to the active crowd participation. Monahan got the crowd singing even if they were unfamiliar with the bands’ music with the help of creatively projected lyrics, and his words of encouragement: “If you don’t know the words, make some shit up”. With outfit changes, a casual stroll through the crowd during ‘Marry Me’, salsa dancing and beach balls, Train made sure it was impossible not to enjoy their set. Despite the mood all of these extra details added, the band could have relied solely on their 90s and millennium hits from their first few albums, covers of U2 and Rihanna, as well as a memorable ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ sing-a-long.

Train was lucky to have Maroon 5 get the crowd going before they took to the stage, but there is no doubt that they blew Maroon 5 out of the water performance wise. While Levine knew how to use his voice, Patrick Monahan had much more to offer than good looks and an enticing voice.
