American Idiot The Musical – March 7, 2014

Review by Darlene Altmann Photographs by Ray Williams

I can honestly say this wasn’t what I was expecting heading to Hamilton Place tonight. The show was Heart-racing, energetic, non-stop pounding lyrics just flood my mind after the show. The Setting was Jingletown, USA, and post 911. It won two Tony awards 2010, 2011 won a Grammy award for best musical album.  It’s no wonder the show’s been a hit “One of the Most Exciting Musicals You’ve Ever Seen! “  -Toronto Star

A must see if you’re a fan of Green Day! Exuberant comes to mine, and A very talented cast, nice lighting, great band. Each member was vocally strong in his/her own way and knew their place in each song performance. The set was always moving and changing in a very creative way. Especially the use of the stage was taken full advantage of in every angle imaginable.

As the storyline goes, Will stays behind because his girlfriend is pregnant; Tunny goes to war; and Johnny moves to the big city where he finds love & drugs.  He chooses drugs over love and his girlfriend leaves him. His friend Tunny becomes injured and returns home. The story ends, where it began, with the three friends’ back together in Jingletown with new experiences.   There are 21 songs in all and this is a 90-minute production straight through without any intermission. The Cast was made up of 18 actors and five band members.
