Audi sets the driverless car standard with the RS7

Think electric or hybrid cars are all the rage these days? Think again. Audi just unleashed the RS7. And get this. It’s the worlds sportiest piloted driving car.

This concept car has muscle and reaches speeds up to 240 km/h (149.1 mph). Audi had a live webcast of the RS7 racing on a German racetrack over the weekend. It was so popular it crashed Audi’s streaming website.

The Audi RS7 is packed with GPS, motion sensors and cameras to make the driverless control of the vehicle accurate down to a centimetre. It’s  powerful engine is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 with a stout 412kW and 700Nm of torque.

Future car manufactures are striving towards driver-less vehicles. But Audi has engineered the RS7 piloted driving concept as a showcase for the sort of self-driving technology we can expect to see filter down into production cars within the next decade provided regulatory changes are enacted to make it legal on roads around the world.
