Concert Reviews

Kodaline with Gavin James at The Danforth Music Hall

It’s not hard to fathom why Dublin-based rockers Kodaline are quickly rising to the top, exhilarating fans worldwide with their melancholic anthems. Some say they’re the next Coldplay or U2, but after seeing them in concert, you’ll see this band have carved their own path.

These lads had the Danforth Music Hall packed. Fans were highly anticipating hearing Kodaline’s latest release, Coming Up for Air, live. They kicked off with “Ready” and headed straight into “Love Like This”. Toronto was certainly happy to have the band back in their midst. Frontman, Steven Garrigan took a moment to appreciate how amazing the crowd was after two songs. He said the night will feature the new and old favourites which was bound to compel fans to sing-along.

Mixed with a few strobe lights, a harmonica, and invigorating folk style energy, Kodaline put on such an unforgettable show that left the crowd in amazement. Their rich sound show how great the Danforth Music Hall actually is. The band’s electric live performance brought out the heart and soul into their songs.  Young girls swoon over the emotional outpouring in “High Hopes”, “The One” and “Love Will Set You Free”. Many couples latched on to each other, connecting to where they are in their relationships. It was grand to be part of a crowd that was in awe of the Dublin quartet.

For the finale, Kodaline brought out opening act, Gavin James (who did an incredible job of starting the show) for “All I Want”. Everyone started singing to the top of their lungs while hugging their best mate or those nearby. This is how a live show was supposed to end. Not only connecting with the band, but also one another.  Overall, Kodaline’s first of the two shows at Danforth was brilliant.  And I’m sure this tour will bring this band’s career to new heights.
