Behind closed doors we were shown Dark Souls 3 in action. We were guided through a strange new land; full of mystery, despair, armored zombies attacking wildly, and even a fire breathing dragon blocking our path. The area shown in the demo was akin to the first game’s early Undead Parish area, named the “Wall of Lodoleth”, an old crumbling castle seemingly empty and abandoned, and yet full of vicious undead enemies at every turn. The developers wanted to convey a sense of withered beauty, the unconventional beauty in post apocalyptic lands. To accomplish this goal, the game improves on various details which really bring the world alive. Wind will affect the cloth on your armor, or blow the ash off of corpses into the air. The lighting is fully dynamic, and to make the most of it you will have a torch to pierce the darkness of the realm’s most unforgiving areas. All this means Dark Souls 3 is the best looking Souls game yet. From the armor to the cracks in the shield, every detail popped out like never before. Other improvements in the game are seen in the game’s combat system. Swords now feature new weapon specific stances that open up entirely new movesets on the fly. Even the bow was given a second look, now allowing you to shoot an arrow quickly after a roll. Overall the combat is a bit faster than the previous games and the team at FROM SOFTWARE is working hard on expanding the role playing capabilities of the new game through diversity of armor and weapons, no doubt taking in feedback received from Bloodborne. Releasing on PlayStation 4; Xbox One, and PC sometime Early 2016, Dark Souls 3 looks absolutely to die for!
