How long have you been with Live in Limbo and what do you do for the site?
2011, writer and photographer.
What were your three favourite albums of 2015?
1. Dear Rogue – Black to Gold
I feel like I waited a long time for this album and was not disappointed. I still find myself once a day listening to a song from the album.
2. James Bay – Chaos & The Calm
I wrote about him on last year’s review for the artist I was most excited about and ended up seeing him more than once this year live! Still up there for most listed to album on iTunes.
3. The Weeknd – Beauty Behind The Madness
As soon as I heard “I Can’t Feel My Face” I was hooked. I remember the first time I played the album and had to go back to replay “Tell Your Friends”. Something that stands out for me with this album is that almost every song on it can be a single.
What was the most underrated album of 2015?
Jess Glynne – I Cry When I Laugh
I just feel like she needs to get some love. I really enjoyed the album and saw her a few times live. She’s the real deal. Sings great, writes her songs, really approachable – bumped into her at the airport in London and was super nice! Just an overall feel good album.
What were your three favourite songs of 2015?
1. Adele – Hello
I know this is a give in for a lot of people but did any other artist break the Internet the day they released a single this year?
2. Towers & Trees – Bad Heart
This song gets me. As I write this, I had to go put it on because I can’t stop, won’t stop. It stands out on their album, which was also released this year too.
3. Years & Years – Desire
This is a getting ready to go out song for sure. It introduced me to the rest of their stuff, which I fell in love with as well.
How many concerts and/or festivals did you go to in 2015?
Concerts – 32 I think?
Festivals – 6
What were your three favourite concerts of the year?
1. Sinead Harnett – V Festival, UK, August 2015
I was so excited to see her play. Been watching her for a while and her set was so much fun.
2. Rich Aucoin – New Years Party at Lee’s Palace
Always up for a Rich Aucoin show.
3. Janet Jackson – ACC, September 2015
Just one off the bucket list finally fulfilled.
What was your favourite festival of the year?
I think I had the most fun at V Festival in the UK. It was like on a whole another level from how we do festivals here. Between the rollercoasters, headliners (Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith, James Bay, Tom Jones(!), it was just so great to see how they do it over there.
Who was your favourite festival headliner?
Clean Bandit at Bestival Toronto.
Which artist or band won 2015?
James Bay just because I put him as my one to watch in 2014.
What/who was the biggest musical disappointment for you?
Miguel. I love you, but what was that show at the Sound Academy?
In your opinion, what was the biggest music story?
Adele’s return.
What was your favourite new musical discovery of 2015?
NAO
Who should we be looking out for in 2016?
NAO!
Who do you hope goes on tour next year?
Adele.
Who’s going to be headlining (or at least playing) all the 2016 festivals?
Coldplay
Is there anything else you want to say about 2015 or predict about 2016?
I think everyone stepped it up this year. Some really great albums came out from the big stars, Taylor Swift, Adele, and Justin Bieber. Excited to see what’s to come.
