Below The Ground

“Wandering, I” by Sunbeam Sound Machine

Sunbeam Sound Machine is a psychedelic dream pop band from Melbourne, California. All music is made by Nick Sowersby but is performed with a live band, similar to the sort of thing that Tame Impala does. The live band includes Jeffrey Bartels on bass, Daniel Moss on guitar, Lochy Funston on Drums, and Sophie Treloar as a sampler and some vocals. He is with Dot Dash Records, as well as Remote Control records.

I chose the third track off of his debut album “Wonderer”, which is called “Wandering, I”. This song has an extremely psychedelic feel to it, and I am absolutely obsessed with it. This is probably my favourite pick so far out of all of my articles.

I’m in love with the guitar and rhythm in this song, this is one of the most catchy songs that I have heard in a good while. The vocals are okay in the beginning song, I can’t say that they’re amazing but once the chorus hits I enjoy them much more. The chorus is truly the best part of this song, and I think it is really unexpected because there is no major build up, which is another reason as to what makes the song what it is.

I admire what this song is about, I think its about second guessing, overthinking, and just questioning occurrences in life in general. I think this is something that is super relatable to everyone because lets be honest, we all overthink a ton. Between instrumentals, lyrics, and the vocals in the chorus, I find this song extremely captivating. In terms of psychedelic music, I honestly have no idea why they are so unknown because between this song and the rest of their music I have listened to, its pretty genius in my opinion.

Feeling more late

I know, I know,

That half of the time

The time is changing

From day to day

It must be tempting

To turn away

What if this takes the rest of my life?

What if its just a moment in time?

What if this takes a part of me?

What if its just a waste of my time?

What if this takes the rest of my life?

What if its just a moment in time?

What if this takes a part of me?

What if its just a waste of my time?

Days just go on

And on and on

I start to wonder

I start to wonder

How do I know if the timing’s right?

Will they like this all the time?

What should I do with a well lived life?

Is this the life for me?

What if this takes the rest of my life?

What if its just a moment in time?

What if this takes a part of me?

What if its just a waste of my time?

What if this takes the rest of my life?

What if its just a moment in time?

What if this takes a part of me?

What if its just a waste of my time?
