Hamilton singer Gillian Nicola shares with us the video for her song Unconditionally shot live showcasing her powerful voice and beautiful songwriting. In April 2016, she released an EP, No Place to Call. This was recorded and produced by Dan Hosh (Whitehorse, Rose Cousins) of Catherine North Studios and mastered by Elliott Brood’s Stephen Pitkin.
“Unconditionally is about a relationship that is way past it’s expiry date – about hanging on to something that you don’t want to let go of, even though you know it’s not good for you and you know how it will turn out. In terms of the composition of the song, I intended for the song to be very conversational – the melody follows what I’m saying and not the other way around. This is actually the second version of this video, we filmed another one months ago but it just didn’t sit right – I wanted to go somewhere that felt natural to me, so we chose Cootes Paradise in Hamilton. It’s a beautiful stretch of land and water that I drive by nearly every day, but that I never really explored in depth until this day. I’m so happy I did – I’ve lived in Hamilton most of my life and yet I find myself discovering and rediscovering it everyday.”
