Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has been exciting fans of the epic dinosaur disaster movie series since it was first announced back in 2015. The sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World, expectations of Fallen Kingdom are certainly high. Will the movie be able to live up to the hype? And what impact has the film already had on the entertainment industry? Let’s find out…

It all started back in 1993, when director Steven Spielberg first introduced us to the wonderful, genre-crossing Jurassic Park. Fast forward more than two decades and those pesky cloned dinosaurs are still causing plenty of trouble. Rumor has it that the film will introduce a new hybrid species, while there’s been much talk of old characters making a reappearance in the new film. Meanwhile, Reddit users are engaging in lively discussions about how much the film is going to take at the box office, with projections as high as $1.3 billion for worldwide income.

While it will be just under a year before we know the truth of those predictions, we can be sure that with Spielberg still at the helm, working alongside renowned Spanish director J.A. Bayona, the Jurassic World sequel is bound to keep fans on the edge of their seats throughout.

Those who just can’t wait for the June 2018 release date (7 June in the UK, 22 June elsewhere) are busying themselves online with all manner of activities in relation to it. As well as holding animated discussions on Reddit, Jurassic World fans are seeking out other ways to engage with the series. One example is the Jurassic World video slot game which you can play here – with its stunning visual effects and compelling soundtrack, the game puts fans right back into the pulse-racing atmosphere of the movie while they wait for Spielberg to wow them again in 2018. One of the best bonus features is the Indominus Rex, which can cross the screen at any time and boost players’ winnings.

Jurassic World hit the headlines back in 2015 when it shot into the ranks of the world’s most successful movies. The film’s worldwide gross totalled over $1.6 billion, making it the fourth largest grossing movie of all time. The figures are one of the reasons that expectations of Fallen Kingdom are so high. But if fans are expecting another take on the whole ‘dinosaur theme park goes wrong’ angle, they could be in for plenty of surprises.

Back in 2015, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow was clear that the future of the series would be changing, stating that it wasn’t “always going to be limited to theme parks.” In his words, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom wouldn’t focus on “a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island. That’ll get old real fast.”

The 2018 film is going to bring additional suspense and scares to a series known for creating a superb thrill of tension, according to Trevorrow. While it takes the series in a new direction, Fallen Kingdom will also hark back to its original routes: Michael Crichton’s novel, Jurassic Park. Dialogue from that novel has been included in the script, ensuring that the film remains true to its origins at the same time as introducing new dinosaurs, concepts and plot twists. We’re counting the days…
