London, Ontario rock band Basic White played a show at Adelaide Hall opening for The Commoners. Despite Live in Limbo hosting three premieres for the group, I had yet to see them live. Watching them it is easy to remember why rock and roll can be such a fun genre of music. In the same vein of The Trews, The Sheepdogs and other great Canadian rock bands, they play anthems about hanging out with your friends, drinking some beers and dancing to a grooving bass line. Speaking of bass lines, they were armed with a secret weapon, a new bass player who brought some serious funk to the show. Most of the set consisted of tracks from their Long Time Comin’ EP, but a terrific cover of the Matt Mays song Cocaine Cowboy (a classic Canadian rock track) and they threw in a preview for a new song that builds on their sound. The band will be playing Canadian Music Week next month so make sure you check them out!
