From The Artist : “Written on a Sunday, this song gives a glimpse into my mind after a night out and waking up with the devil on my shoulder. Writing on days like these I feel like Soprano on the couch”
On the final single to make up his debut EP ‘Home-Cooked Meals’, South African-Norwegian rapper and producer Vuyo explores the all-too-familiar feelings of anxiety after hitting it too hard the night before on.
He tells us; “Written on a Sunday, this song gives a glimpse into my mind after a night out and waking up with the devil on my shoulder. Writing on days like these I feel like Soprano on the couch.”
The feel of ‘THBP’ corresponds well with the message of the track; we’re eased into a false sense of security with Easy-Sunday vibes with Vuyo’s iconic, intoxicating self-production, formed from layers of percussion and warm synths but, listening closer to the lyricism, Vuyo shares a darker side to his psyche, spotlighting mental health as a catalyst for his song writing – ‘these beats in my diary for the demons inside of me; written testament for every feeling I had”. The hook ropes together Vuyo’s laidback chorus with the underlying vocal sample singing “bad at being good, worse at being better…’ making for something special.
Don’t sleep on him, add Vuyo to your one-to-watch list. He’s already gained US-hype in the run-up to ‘Home-Cooked Meals’, let’s see what else is in store from this innovative rapper and producer as he continues to demonstrate his varied artistic palette…
‘THBP’ along with the debut EP ‘Home-Cooked Meals’ is out everywhere Friday.
