EARTHGANG at History

Photos + Review by Jerome Joyce

EarthGang, Atlanta’s Duo rolled through Toronto in support of their 2022 album release and tour of the same name, Ghetto Gods.

Members, Olu a.k.a Johnny Venus, and WowGr8 a.k.a Doctur Dot are great individual artists but together, they’re incredible! The energy and onstage presence is felt by every person in attendance regardless if you’ve seen them before, like me or if it’s your first time. Their 20-song setlist consisted of a heavy rotation of their latest release, their previous album Mirrorland and some tracks from the Dreamville compilations. Catering to their fanbase growth with tracks everyone in the venue was looking forward to hearing.

I would consider myself a Hip Hop Head. I’ve been heavily invested in the genre and culture since the late 80s and have seen and listened to several influential duos and truthfully, I’d put EarthGang in the conversation as tops in the game. They bring an organic approach to the genre, an unmatched flair, and an artistic and creative feel which I haven’t seen since the duo that got me truly enamored with the Atlanta vibe, Outkast.

If you’ve just happened to come across this quick little review, do yourself a solid and listen to EarthGang. You’ll love the freshness they bring to an extremely modern cookie cutter, repetitive genre and will quickly become a new heavy rotation artist on your streaming service. Lastly, see you in the fall when they run as support for the Gorillaz on their North American tour. The big arena recognition EarthGang deserves.
