Last month, acclaimed chart-topping rockstar and JUNO Award winner JJ Wilde announced the forthcoming release of her full length album, Vices, due September 20, 2024, and offers another glimpse of what’s to come from her most personal collection to date with the release of “im not crazy youre just an asshole (toxic).”
While reflecting on the new song’s themes and inspiration, Wilde says “As someone who experienced bullying throughout my life I have absolutely no time for it. Someone making someone else feel like shit to make themselves feel better is the lowest of the low in my opinion. This song is a letter to those who choose to put others down and actively try and hurt others. In my case it was a group of mean girls very similar to the movie (there was even a burn book).”
Continuing, Wilde explains that “This song is a rally cry for those who experience bullying and don’t know how to stand up for themselves. It’s what I wish I had been able to say when I was going through it myself. Eventually I did stand up to them and it all stopped but I am grateful for that experience. I have much more appreciation for people and kindness and standing up for myself and others.”
