The annual idobi Radio Summer School Tour has announced a partnership with 501(c)(3) nonprofit Save The Music Foundation for a third consecutive year. For every ticket sold on this year’s tour – beginning June 19 in San Diego – the idobi Radio Summer School Tour will donate $0.50 to Save The Music Foundation to help in their vision of empowering students, schools, and communities to reach their full potential through the power of making music.
From their overall mission to their ongoing partnership with Save The Music Foundation, the idobi Radio Summer School Tour has always emphasized giving back to the young fans and communities that fuel our local music scenes. In that spirit, the tour has announced the introduction of a new initiative for this year’s run. For the first time, the idobi Radio Summer School Tour will welcome one local act for an opening support slot on each date, shedding a light on the incredible regional music scenes within each city. See here for a complete list of the local artists joining the run.
Every local artist will join the tour-wide lineup of five independent artists and bands on the verge of breaking out: Honey Revenge, South Arcade, Games We Play, Winona Fighter, and Chase Petra. Founded by Eric Tobin (Hopeless Records), Michael Kaminsky (KMGMT), and Kevin Lyman (Vans Warped Tour) and sponsored by idobi Radio and Hot Topic, the North American tour enters its third year in a class of its own. Carrying the torch of a bygone ethos – a traveling festival focused on artist development, community, ticket affordability, and social impact – Summer School is as much an incubator for the next generation of headliners as it is an unrivaled experience for the next generation of concertgoers.
In partnership with Live Nation, Summer School kicks off in June and travels to two dozen major cities across North America this summer. The tour will cap off with a finale in Long Beach, CA, on July 25th: a momentous date in partnership with Vans Warped Tour, where each Summer School artist will perform at the festival. General on-sale tickets are available now here.
Guitar Center, Peta2 and SJC Drums have also teamed up with the tour as partner sponsors for this year’s run, with Guitar Center providing gear for artists and hosting several in-store appearances and events in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Denver – each of which will feature a different Summer School artist performing a short acoustic session and hosting a Q+A hosted by Bianca Bello. Fans can gain entrance by RSVPing with a ticket to the show later that evening.
Since 1997, Save The Music (STM) has worked to address systemic inequities in music education by investing in culturally rich American communities – supporting music teachers and donating musical instruments, equipment and technology to public schools. To date, the organization has donated over $78 million worth of instruments, equipment and technology to over 2,900 schools across hundreds of school districts, impacting the lives of millions of students nationwide.
“Save The Music is honored to be a beneficiary of The Summer School tour for the third year in a row,” says Hallie Cross, Director of Creative Marketing at Save The Music. “Since our collaboration started, proceeds from Summer School ticket sales have benefited hundreds of students, spanning across fifteen communities nationwide.”
