PVRIS, blessthefall, Attila, August Burns Red, Bebe Rexha at Van’s Warped Tour 2015 Buffalo

For most people in the alternative music world, you know the Summer is officially here when the Vans Warped Tour rolls through your town. Luckily, this year’s Buffalo date at Darien Lake was met with clear skies and beautiful sunshine, unlike the rain we seem to face most years on the Toronto date of the tour. This year’s line up included artists such as August Burns Red, Riff Raff, Bebe Rexha and New Beat Fund.

For those of you who have never attended Warped Tour before, it’s a wonderful festival where you can see some of your favourite bands while discovering new artists to listen to. Branching out from the usual punk, metal and alt rock scene that Warped usually caters to, they’ve added a new stage called the Beatport Stage. This is where they had artists such as MC Lars, Koo Koo Kanga Roo, and TAT. It was really nice to see how they’ve tried to make the festival more diverse over the years. You can also check out up and coming artists on the Kevin Says & Ernie Ball stages, which was showcased one of our hometown favourites, Sumo Cyco, on previous years. Along with discovering new music, the wonderful thing about Warped Tour is that you also get to discover a bunch of cool non-profits such as Keep A Breast, To Write Love On Her Arms, Music Saves Lives, and Heart Support. I feel like bringing a lot of non-profits onto the tour really helps open up the eyes of the younger kids in this scene. It educates them on important subjects such as breast cancer awareness, and shows them that there will always be support for them when they are dealing through hard times. One thing that I found to be unique about Warped Tour is that they offer a Reverse Day Care. This means if you are underage, you can bring a parent into the show for free and they even get their own special tent with air conditioning, and have the chance to watch movies all day long if they choose not to follow you around the festival.

Even if you don’t listen to alternative music, Warped Tour is definitely worth checking out for the experience alone. And who knows, maybe you will even find some new artists to listen to by the time the day is over!

Some of the highlights from the day included :
• blessthefall being joined on stage with their original vocalist, Craig Mabbitt, to perform ‘Guys Like You Make Us Look Bad’
• Family Force 5’s energetic set which included trampolines, people dressed up as unicorns & gummy bears, as well as a chainsaw.
• August Burns Red being joined on stage by what appeared to be Katy Perry’s Left Shark, who proceeded to turn their set into a huge beach party.
