Normally held on Father’s Day here in the great white North, the iHeartRadio MMVAs debuted at it’s new date on August 26, 2018. This year, fans saw the star-studded lineup of Kris Wu, Halsey, Shawn Mendes, 5 Seconds of Summer, Meghan Trainor, Alessia Cara, and many others! We were also introduced to newer artists such as Bulow, Bebe Rexha, and Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine. And in a retro throwback, we got a dose of 98 Degrees!
As a Virgin Mobile Canada Member, Erin and I got the full VIP treatment to all the festivities! The day began in the heart of Toronto, where we got to meet other lucky winners of the MMVA contest. Everyone was dressed top-notch glam style. After chilling out, we all got into our executive black SUVs and chauffeured to the awards. We could hear roars and cheers of the fans for seeing their favourite celebrities step out of their vehicles. Then it was our turn. We rolled up to the barricades and walked our way down the red carpet like the famous ourselves. What an experience. Our first treat was to get up and close to a knock-out performance by Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine. What a dynamic duo of vocals, sounds, and energy. They are going to big places.
After that, Members got to chow down in the VIP Lounge up high on the Much Music roof top patio. We got to much on many delights such as grilled cheese mac & cheese, chicken satay, spaghetti and meatball cups, and veggies wraps.
Then it was finally time for the main event. Members got a to watch the entire MMVAs from a special on stage platform that got us up close to the action. This years host Awkwafina did an amazing job of being the first ever Asian celebrity to host a North American music award show. Barriers were definitely shattered that night as even Chinese sensation Kris Wu made his North American television debut. History was made that night.
