Opening up the show was American group French Horn Rebellion, this duo set up behind a bank of computers, keys, and turntables. Through billowing fog and not a lot of light they steadily worked their way through a half hour set. The french horn that is their name sake made a few appearances throughout the set, and overall they made a very good impression in their short time on stage.
Then it was time for Yelle to take the stage, fronted by Julie Budet who took to the stage in something loosely resembling a hedge with arms. After a song of this she revealed her leopard themed ensemble, fitting with the animal theme the tour has. The amount of energy on stage was very impressive as Budet powered through a set of songs ranging across both albums, but leaning pretty heavily on the new material. Some of the highlights included their hit single ‘Je Veux Te Voir’ as well as the second half of their new single ‘Que Veux-Tu’.
There’s something infectious about their brand of electro-pop, especially considering most people in the audience couldn’t understand a word of the lyrics. In this case it was all part of the fun, and despite some strained attempts at interaction with the crowd, the audience absolutely loved it. Coming back out for a two song encore, they closed with the always crowd pleasing ‘A Cause Du Garcons’, with a performance this good you can only wonder where they’ll be the next time they come through town.
