The sun is finally coming out and we can dream of going to shows without needing coat check soon enough. But for now stick to the indoor shows while our bodies are still defrosting.
Ariana Grande @ ACC
March 5th, 2017
$59.95-$249.95 | All Ages
Both Sean and myself love Ariana Grande, which might seem odd given the normal artists I cover but she is fun and infectious in a way that is so unique. I’ve never seen her live before and I wish I were attending this show as Dangerous Woman is a stellar record.
Sting with Joe Sumner @ Rebel
March 5th, 2017
$106.50 | 19+
Former Police frontman teams up with his son Joe Sumner to tour. Rebel must have some amazing bookers to get such an icon to play a (relatively) small venue, considering he easily could be at the ACC if he really wanted to. What will his sets consist of? Solo tunes? Police numbers? Both? This is a very intruiging show.
The Flaming Lips @ Rebel
March 13th, 2017
$50.00-$50.00 | 19+
Psych weirdo kings The Flaming Lips keep pushing boundaries the more they record. No one would have expected them to make a record as Miley Cyrus’ backing band, but they did that last year. Their new record Oczy Mlody keeps their freak status running high. I’m sure they will make a glorious mess of the too perfect Rebel aesthetic.
All Them Witches @ Horseshoe Tavern
March 14th, 2017
$15.00 | 19+
A truly underrated band, ATW blend psych rock with blues and country to create their own heavy beast. Their show last year at Wayhome was a blast and their new record Sleeping Through The War is a triumphant release.
Wilco @ Massey Hall
March 15-16th, 2017
$39.50-$85.00 | All Ages
Wilco keeps getting better and better the longer they are around. While Schilmo didn’t get much press last year when it came out, hardcore fans still loved it. Having two shows at the gigantic Massey Hall really shows their stature in the music world, even if mainstream media doesn’t give them the recognition they deserve.
The Zolas @ Mod Club
March 16th, 2017
$20.00 | All Ages
Last year The Zolas were everywhere from having their songs Swooner and Get Dark were played all the time and they toured with acts like The Strumbellas putting them firmly on the radar. They will take advantage of their success by playing to larger venues then they used to like Mod Club.
Cold War Kids @ Danforth Music Hall
March 22nd, 2017
$27.50-$37.50 | 19+
The Modest Mouse offshoot has kept plugging away and creating a devoted fan base almost as big as their former bandmates. An album should be coming out this year as they have started to release singles from it. Hopefully those in attendance will get a preview of them.
Vince Staples @ Phoenix
March 24th, 2017
$25.00 | All Ages
This show gets a spot on my list solely for the poster alone (Life Aquatic is my favourite movie). Regardless Vince Staples is an amazing live act and everything he has put out so far is a game changer. He supposedly has more material coming out this year after releasing the excellent EP Prima Donna only last year.
Bastille @ ACC
March 24th, 2017
$35.50-$49.50 | All Ages
The French pop rockers have finally grown big enough to play Toronto’s biggest regular concert venue (Skydome doesn’t have enough shows to qualify). The tickets are so reasonably priced; it would be a crime to not go.
